Twitter Confirms It: Ellen DeGeneres a Good Choice for Idol

When Paula Abdul broke the news — by way of Twitter — that she was leaving American Idol, it wasn’t exactly well received by diehard show fans. Fan reaction and questions over FOX’s decision-making became hot topics for blogs and entertainment shows, some wondering if the show had alienated its core audience.

But something unexpected has changed all that. Yesterday FOX confirmed that popular Twitterer (@TheEllenShow) and daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres would be the new American Idol judge. And according to your Twitter (Twitter) reactions, it’s pure genius.

Crimson Hexagon analyzed tweets following the big Idol announcement and found that a large majority (66%) of tweets expressed enthusiasm over the addition of Ellen DeGeneres to the judging table, with over one quarter of all tweets (26%) indicating a desire to start watching the show because of Ellen. On the flip side, only 17% think the decision was a mistake, making the “Not a good move” category the smallest single group in the overall Twitter sentiment analysis.

We happen to think FOX made an extremely smart move. Not only is Ellen at the top of the Twitter food chain with over 3.2 million followers, but she’s generally well-received, perhaps because she’s been known to give away $1k to her Twitter followers. If the Twittersphere’s reaction is any indication, most people have long forgotten Abdul’s absence and are ready to welcome the daytime talk show host with open arms.

Koobface Virus Now Loose on Twitter

What to expect

What to expect

Adam Ostrow blogs, "Koobface, an infamous virus that has previously been a big problem on Facebook, MySpace, and other social networks, is now spreading its wings to Twitter. Like previous virsues that have been spread via Twitter, the way to get infected with this one is to follow a link."

Adam goes on to explain that "what Koobface does once you follow the link is a bit trickier than some other scams. It first shows you what appears to be a YouTube video (on a page and URL that resembles YouTube). And, like occasionally the case with YouTube videos, you’re then asked to upgrade your Flash player."

Be very careful downloading EXE's from non-Adobe websites. If you want to make sure you have the latest version, get it directly from Adobe.com: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

You can get a fix from TrendMicro here: http://blog.trendmicro.com/koobface-increases-twitter-activity/
